WIP Wednesday 11.16.16

How about a WIP Wednesday.  Actually, I feel like everything lately is a WIP.  I recently saw someone musing on the difference between a Work in Progress and a UFO - Unfinished Object.  For me the WIPs I'm actively working on - the UFOs are sitting in a box somewhere.

Anyway - since I'm not using my sewing machine this week due to some electrical work, I've been prepping things.

 Cutting scraps from The Mine Craft Quilt into squares- and putting the rest away.

 Basting one,

 Two,

 Three,

 and Four quilts (so far).  The three double pinwheels are all cut offs from This Quilt in March.


And I've cut out this shirt. This shot is of the wrong side of the fabric.  The right side is much brighter - it may be saved for Christmas, even though I had originally thought Thanksgiving.  Of course, I may not be sewing by Thanksgiving....

WIP Wednesday 2.17.16

 Welcome to WIP Wednesday where its been all about the words this week.  Honeybee and needle are for the February and March blocks respectively for the Spelling Bee Quilt Bee I'm in.

 Yep, I'm working ahead.  It really is easier to do the letters the more that you do, so since I had the tools and book out, I thought I'd get done what I could.

 I also made a word for me, my month isn't until September, but I've been working out what kinds of words I want to ask for.  This may give you a clue.

 I'm also working on draft blocker, at night, with bad lighting.  The fabric is plastic coated from IKEA.  It got put on hold after the weekend, because I had to acquire some sand to weight the ends.

 See those little patches?  There are magnets in there.  I am hoping that 7 magnets will help the front door blocker stick to the metal front door, so we don't have to kick it back in place all the time.

 Lastly, this is actually E's WIP.  I loaded up on $0.99 patterns at Joann the other day.  The penguins caught my eye, but E is going to make the elephant.

 I pulled some fabric choices for her today.  Can you guess her favorite color?

I guess there is no link up anymore, so now whose going to keep me on track???

WIP Wednesday 1.27.16

 Happy Wednesday! Blogging three days in a row - somebody mark the calendar!

 This week's finish was the Color Wheel Quilt.  Details Here.

 I made a cushion cover for my hiney donut.  I took a hard fall on the ice/cement last Friday, which necessitated a certain kind of cushion for my tail bone.

 I thought this was a bit nicer than bright yellow foam.  I just grabbed a couple fat quarters and shaped a cushion.  It's not perfect, but waaaaaay better than yellow foam.  What is that bright glare on the fabric?  I think its sunshine.  Feels like years since we've had a sunny day.  Seriously, at least a week.

 I am feeling better each day.  Don't even always have to use the cushion, now.

 In more fun WIPs, 100 day is coming Friday.  I'm ready with eyes and a couple of T-shirts.  WD is taking care of his own this year (yay!) So I only have to help two kids.

 I'm working on a couple of store samples again.  Big Blocks above, really pretty fabric.

And Yellow Brick Road seen here.  This is a really great fat quarter pattern.  Uses the whole thing!  I have a couple of fat quarter stacks that I may save this pattern for.  I don't typically buy 30s fabrics, so this was a little different for me.  E did the layout and the crawling on the floor for me, since I couldn't, and I think she is partial to the quilt, now.  I suppose she can have it whenever I get it back.  In like, a year.

Speaking of 30s fabric, I'm sure that my inlaws have a set of sheets from the 60s/70s with the same green flowers!

WIP Wednesday 1.20.16

WIP Wednesdays are good for me.  They help keep me blogging at least semi-regularly.

 This one is for my next Four-in-Art mini quilt.  Full reveal on Feb. 1.  Right now as I type this it is in the wash.  I'm praying it turns out the way I'm expecting. I'll go into all the reasons and details and finish on the 1st, so make sure you come back for that!

I plan on getting a binding on this one today.  Going to do the whole thing by machine.  Maybe a reveal tomorrow?

I need to do some mending.  I don't like mending. 

I picked up this plastic coated fabric at IKEA earlier this week.  Planning to make some draft blockers.  Need to figure out what to fill them with.  Any one have suggestions?  Poly fill? Sand? Both?

WIP Wednesday 1.13.16

 My first WIP for the week was these word blocks.  They are for Elizabeth at Occasional Piece Quilt.  I am part of a "Spelling Bee" This year.  There are 11 of us creating words, one person per month.  Elizabeth is doing a lovely poem? for Valentines day.  Since she is the instigator, she gets to go first!  She also gets our first attempts at word piecing.  Mine went something like this:

 I made sing on evening.  By the end of the night, I was wishing that I had never signed up for this!  But, I'd rather die than break a commitment, so I soldiered on.

 The next afternoon I made for.  It was a breeze.  Easy Peasy.  That night I made joy.  No longer in love.  But now that I've been done for a week, and seen many other's letters, I'm OK with mine.  And now they are Elizabeth's WIP!

 Last night I put my color wheel blocks together.  As you can see, I still have all the labels pinned.  I don't want to forget before I get a label put together for the back.   

 I've begun my next Four-In-Art project.  It is deliberately vague.  I don't want to give anything away.

 Thanks to a nice gift from Mr. Riley I am hiding a secret sewing project in the very case he gave me.  I really don't know if I can get it done for a certain birthday, as I can only work on it during the day.  But I'm trying.

 And I did some shopping this week in preparation for my niece's quilt. She leans toward the bottom half of the pile.  More pastel.  I will probably throw a few brights in there to pop, though.  And in reality this will probably be a February project.  But I am ready! I've even picked out the pattern.

WIP Wednesday 1.6.16

OOOO.  1.6.16  Yeah, I'm a dork.

OK.  I had originally thought January would be nice and relaxing in the sewing/quilting area, but I feel like things are already filling up.

My two HAVE TOS:

 My Next Four in Art Quilt.  Color: Microscopic.   I have a plan and I have the tools.

 The other group project I'm involved in is a Spelling Bee Quilt project.  Each member has a month and a list of words that they would like.  My Bees was just for practice.  They need work.  I have three (short) words to do for January.

 WANT TOS:

Still working away at blocks for my Christmas Handmaids Quilt.

I took a workshop on the color wheel Monday.  We did cutting, not sewing.  These are the blocks laid out.  Each one is made using the color wheel to add the 12 squares.  The class itself was great.  I'm not loving the blocks.  I will have to pull them out and take a look in natural light and see if I'm happier then, or if I should switch some things up.

And then there's the should start/finish pile.

I need to make a quilt for my niece.  She has to choose fabric, though.
I did want to make a quilt for Mr. Riley's birthday. 4 weeks away.  Hmmmm.
And then there is the pile of tops and one basted quilt waiting for me......

WIP Wednesday 12.16.15

 Well, Hello!
I suppose its rather been a while.  I thought I'd pop in and show you my current WIP.  You know, besides all the Christmas Preparation.

 A few weeks ago, I was going through all my collected magazines, trying to decide what was worth keeping, and I came across an ad for this fabric.  A year later.  I wouldn't recommend falling in love with a fabric a year after it comes out.  Anyway, I decided I had to have it.  You see, I saw that particular angel in the middle right square.  She is wearing the Belt of Truth and the Helmet of Salvation.  All the verses have to do with prophecy and the birth of Christ.  And angels! And music! And pattern pieces!  And paper dolls!

So now, after a couple different purchases I have enough of the fabric to do something with.  The interesting thing is that most of it is in panels, so, I am creating blocks.

I've cut up all the pieces on the lines (not printed square! Grr)  And I've been adding fabrics, a piece at a time to get the blocks up to 15.5" square.  All the blocks are bordered with the black, so it should create an interesting cohesive layout.

The holly leaves and the music print are not from the Handmaids collection.  But I like them and think they go well enough.  So I've been building blocks, one at a time, somewhat randomly.  Its a rather slow process, but since it is selfish sewing, I'm rather enjoying it.  The down side, is that since there is actually no deadline, other things come first, so I haven't spent a lot of time at the machine.

And then, the other night when I was building blocks and wanted to see them, I put up my two wimpy design boards up against the railings, and I had an epiphany, I could prop up a whole big design board here!  So that is on the list to make, hopefully soon.  I have a large box in the barn that would probably work.  I need to decide batting or flannel.  Probably flannel, as it is cheaper.

WIP Wednesday 11.18.15

 Most of my sewing lately has been getting this top together.

 I had originally planned to make it as a leader/ender project, but the pattern was too complicated and the pieces kept getting moved around and knocked down, so I decided to just sit down and get it pieced.

 All the (non cream) prints are French General from Moda.  Most are Chateau Rouge.  Way back when I purchased a few mystery boxes from Craftsy I ended up with a number of 2.5" charm packs.  I decided to do a traditional Triple Irish Chain.

 My photography helper today.  Also gives you a size perspective.

 Mini approved.

 With most of the left overs, I am piecing this checkerboard.  I guess I could probably make a matching pillow.  It will be 24"x24".  Admittedly this is going into the "needs to be quilted" box.  I'm not ready to finish the quilt at this point.

 The rest of my left overs.  Not too bad, I'll probably piece them into the back.

 And in other unusual WIPS, I have to patch Mr. Riley's hunting chaps.  Fortunately it doesn't have to be pretty, just functional.
