Sewing for Mini

 I'd been wanting to do some sewing for Mini.  I've managed to acquire a few pieces of apparel fabric (mostly I think from my step mom) and wanted to put them to good use (or pitch).  So I pulled a few potential patterns from the stash and set to work. 

First up was a couple of tops from some polka dot jersey a friend gave to me.  She got them in a bag of fabric she picked up from Goodwill.  It was yardage, but had care tags!

 I got two tops made.

Here she is actually wearing one of the tops, which later I noticed was on backwards!

There was some leftover fabric, so I squeaked out a pair of shorts and matching scrunchies.

I also made some jammies. 

This one was made from two different pieces. Neither was quite big enough to be on its own.

I also made a couple of summer jammies from undershirts matched with a sewn skirt.

The sweet eyelet fabric had the following note tucked in it.

 Grandma Wilma is my 103! y/o grandmother.  Not sure how long ago she gave me the fabric.

A Few Random Projects on a Thursday

This post is to document a few of the projects I've done lately, but none really require an entire blog post.

 I've been diligently cutting up my scraps into usuable pieces.  Squares mostly. 

Sometimes I do it just to do some cutting, pulling things from my bin, but usually its after pulls for projects, I'm trying to clean up as I go.

 Has anyone else tried the thread from Hobby Lobby?  I picked up these to try because they were 50% off, and as much as I love my Aurifil, I also like a good deal.

 I did some heat transger vinyl projects for our school secretary (and E's volleyball coach).  She asked for the Avenger in Training to announce her pregnancy.  It was pretty cute.  I made the other ones just for fun as an early (first) gift. Their family are huge Marvel fans.

 I mentioned that I had a bunch of buffalo plaid flannel.  I also had some fleece remnant from Joann. I made the middle three pillows for the girl's room and E made the other two from kits from our trip to Iowa. last spring.

 I also whipped up a pair of sleep shorts for E.

This is a piece of vinyl on Mini's brush.  She has the same one as her sister, but her sister refuses to share, especially after an incident of lice last year.  They are Wet Brushes.  They work very well on my girls thick and wavy hair. 

Sewing for Mini: Shorts

I've put quilting aside for a time to sew up some clothing and hopefully a few other projects before we leave for our family vacation at the end of the month.

A couple of weeks ago we had a nice day time high in the 70s and I realized that poor Mini had no shorts.

The last few days have taken care of that problem.

 I simply raided my stash, found some cute cotton prints and sewed up some shorts.

 It doesn't take much fabric for a two year old - even though I have to sew up size 4!

 This is one of those great projects that really only cost time.  I already had all the fabric, elastic, and even buttons.

 I don't remember where I got the Care Bear fabric -  maybe my grandmother?  I'm glad to have found a use for it.  I didn't have enough fabric for facing, so I just used a muslin. 

So far its been too cold again to wear any of these, but they are saying 80 on Friday.
