Baby Quinn's Quilt - A Fairy Finish

Back on a horse named Blogger....

I have so much that I want to share on here and I so appreciate being able to go back and check on what I did when, so I'm going to have to start making this blog a regular part of my week again.

So, to that end, a quilt that I finished back in March.  For my newest niece! My step-sister and her husband live in Austin, TX, so I haven't met her yet (will happen in Oct), but I finished and sent a quilt as soon as she was born (in March!)

I have a small hoarded stash of the Flower Fairies fabric by Cicely Mary Barker. E has a quilt of them and Mini will get one soon.  So I thought it would be fun for their cousin to have one as well.  The pink sashing was in my stash, and the flower border was brand new.

This was my pile of backing possibilities.  I went with the stars, because her momma loves stars.

Just free motion quilted with a sturdy machine sewn binding.  Hopefully the quilt is getting lots of use!

Day Dreaming Friday

I am down to the last 20-some inches or so on binding the Fairy Quilt, so of course my thoughts are starting to turn to what I want to do next...

 I had hoped to finish last night, but didn't.

 I did prep my label this morning, so that I can put my sewing machine away for guests this weekend and get it sewn on right away.

So on to the day dreaming...
Our little Four-in-Art group has its next reveal on August 1, and while that may seem like a long way away, I've got a two week trip to FL and a baby to deliver between now and then.  The theme is OWL.

This is what I immediately sketched out.

Those are some pretty small hexies.  1/4" on a side.

So I tried some bigger ones.  1/2" on a side.

I'm rather smitten with the smaller one.  I think its cuter. What do you think?
I've pulled some potential owl fabrics:
Browns for an adult.

 Greys for a juvenile.

 Still definitely in the dreaming stage, but since I'm planning on EPP during the car ride anyway, perhaps I'll make an owl, or two...

Friday's Musings

No finishes this week.  All my sewing attention has been turned to E's Pink Fairy Quilt.



I am actually burning out a bit.  I think I will have to pull out something else to work on today.  I finished all the blue background.

And quilted two of the outer panels.  16 more to go.

E wants bubbles quilted in the pink part to match her curtains...

 I think it would look good, but I've got to figure it out.  I don't want to stop and start a ton, so lot of traveling stitches?  I think I may have to draw it out first.

 Next week is spring break for the kids.  Not sure how much blogging or sewing will get done.  I do need to make E's Easter dress, though.  Its a simple pattern.  Maybe I'll pull that out today.  The above shot is out my back bedroom window.  Down the hill into the woods and the swamp out behind.  Things are slowly warming up around here.  Honestly, the slow melt is probably better than a fast one.  Less flooding and mess that way, hopefully we'll have some good weather next week while the kids are home.  I remembered the other day that I planted close to 200 bulbs last fall, I'm looking forward to seeing them!

Two For the Price of One

OK, not really.  It all cost me, but how about two tops to show you today?

 Pink Fairy Quilt Top

 I can't believe it took me so long to get around to putting them together.  It's not like they were particularly complicated.  I think I originally planned to do pieced blocks in addition to the panels, but the above picture in a Fons & Porter Quilts for Kids helped me past that.  Unfortunately, I couldn't use the measurements in the pattern because my panels were not the same size - and I wanted the fairy names to show.

 So I did lots of math.  With fractions.  The blue and pink panels were different as well, so I did math twice!  Fortunately, it all came together pretty nicely.  Now I need to prep some backings and get basting.

 I was contemplating a third fairy quilt, because I have one more large panel - but the colors are so far off, I don't think its going to happen.  At least not like this.

 E has decided she wants the pink one and hopes I'll have another girl to give the blue one to.  Otherwise, she'll just get both.
