WIP Wednesday 2.18.15

And suddenly Wednesday is here again!  My current WIP you can see below.  Another of the Feathered Christmas Quilts.  I got this far with the quilting last night, but stopped because I want to fix some things.

In the picture below you can see where the red is showing through along the seam.  Not cool.  I am thinking of entering this little quilt in a show, and I'm pretty sure I would get knocked for that red showing through.  Plus the quilting will probably make it even more noticeable.  So today I will do a little unbasting around the edges and trim down that seam allowance. I feel about seeing seams the same way I feel about bra straps and panty lines, sometimes they can't be avoided, but you should do your best to avoid them.  I still don't understand the tendency towards pressing every seam open in a quilt.

Anyway, moving on.  I do have two finished to write up posts for.  One is the Temperature Quilt!!!!

A sneaky peek at the back - that is snow on the back, by the way.

I also finished the wreath quilt.

Linking with Lee.

And I'm also #notgoingtoquiltcon - so feel free to drown your sorrows in the comments along with me.

Beautiful work! I am amazed at your FMQ skills. I never understood pressing seams open until I tried it and it made everything so flat! But I will probably never enter anything into a quilt show, either, where mean people will nit-pick about my seams showing through:/

Your Feathered Christmas Quilt is beautiful! I have photo of one of these pinned and it's on my list of someday quilts.

Oh and your quilting is amazing!

Your feathered tree quilt is gorgeous. I completely understand why you want to trim down that seam allowance. It is so hard to accept that sometimes seam allowances are going to be seen. I try to press toward the dark fabrics, but that doesn't always work. I am not one to press seam allowances open when quilting- I tend to worry about batting working its way through the seam over time.

I'm not going to quiltcon either. No time, no money. But if my husband graduates this semester like we're hoping, maybe next time.
Love that quilt. For pressing seams open, I think it's a matter of personal preference. Sometimes it's useful for complicated blocks. And you never get a shadow like the one you had. Most of the time I press to the side, but every once in a while I'll press open.
