Mother's Day Gifts - Heating Pads

Now that Mother's Day is past and the gifts are finally given, I'm finally getting around to posting what I made.

Heating Pads.  The kind that go in the microwave.
I made one for each Grandmother.  I just pretty much made them up as I went along.  The insides are muslin with tubes sewn and filled.  Two each of rice and flax seed with lavender oil.
I then did just enough quilting to hold a layer of fabric and batting together, made a cover, put the rice/seeds inside and sewed up the hole.
 Cherries
 and apples.  Yum.
I was really surprised how long they hold the heat.  My Father-in-law ended up using one for his bronchitis.  He would put it on his chest to keep down the coughing.

I should probably make one for my own family.

What great gifts. I should make one for home. What would you use if you didn't want the lavender scent? Just flax seed or more rice?
