What would you do?

With a pile of random blocks?

 Random Sizes.
 Random fabrics.
 Random skills.

This is about a quarter of what I've got.  My best thought is to build them up with neutral borders and put them all in one big quilt.  (ugly quilt #3?)

What do you do with your orphan blocks?

Linking up with Really Random Thursday at Live a Colorful life.  I think this applies, don't you?

I would sash them wonky style to a uniform size and put them into a quilt. I think wonky adds some zip and makes a fun layout.

Why don't you use the nicer ones on pieced backs and throw out the uglier ones? Or you assemble some kind of crumb quilt?

I am to that stage now in using my scraps... but...the whole "point" of a "Civil War" quilt is that they only had small bits of fabric from time to time and never had enough to make more than one square but when all those individual squares were put together, the quilt was beautiful! Make them and put them together! Just post the results!!

I tend to use orphan blocks in smaller projects like sewing cases and pouches but I think your suggestion of sashing them and making a quilt is great :)

Those are really random.

How about dividing all of the ones you have into piles where the colors go together. All the greyed colors. All the pure colors. That kind of thing.

It is possible that some of the blocks could go into a modern kind of quilt set, where you only use 4 or 5 blocks in the top with the rest as negative space.

Or you could make a bunch of four patch and flying geese to put together a Civil War kind of setting where anything goes, with some of the others.

How about going through the blocks and organizing them into groups either by color or by style.

Some of them could become a Modern Quilt with just a few blocks and a lot of negative space.

Others a very traditional scrap quilt with four patches and flying geese blocks to get them all to fit together.

Yes this totally qualifies. All my random blocks are in a bin...somewhere. Thanks for linking!
