Weather Quilt

I got three of my quilts basted yesterday.  Which I'm feeling pretty good about.  Two were baby quilts and one was the Ugly Quilt.  I will continue to baste until I run out of pins.  Then I will move to quilting!

I plan to order some thread from Superior Threads today.  I want to try their polyester invisible thread.  The only other thread I've ever used from them is the Bottom Line - which was fantastic, by the way - so I have high hopes for the invisible.  I may have to throw in a couple other spools of things to try, too.

Now, on to the subject of today's post.
A friend of mine posted a couple days ago about making a temperature scarf.
I immediately started to think about how I could translate that into a quilt.  Remember, I don't do sticks and yarn!

So after a day or two of thought, and a little playing on my EQ7

Here is my conceptual for a temperature/weather quilt.  (obviously, not 365 days worth) I still haven't decided if I want to do this, but I do know now exactly how I'd go about it.  One strip for each month.  Fill in spaces with black.  A strip 2.5" x 5.5" for each day.  Should be a good size quilt top when all is said and done.  I've even thought I could go so far as to not just do the temperature, but the weather.  In the scarf you're just supposed to add stripes for significant weather days, but in fabric you could use snowflake fabric, water fabric, even sunshines!

I kind of don't want to start, because we are already 40 days into the year, but on the other hand, I actually dreamed about it last night - so maybe that's a sign.  And really, this would be a great scrap buster!  If you lived in a warmer climate, your colors might all be warmer, whereas mine will shift from cools to warms and back.

Anyone else want to try something like this with me?

I really like your weather quilt idea! My brother is a real weather nut and this would be a perfect quilt for him - especially with appropriate prints added to increase interest! :-) So many many good quilt ideas... I'll never catch up with all I want to do. Sigh. :-)
