WIP Wednesday 8.14.13 Kid Style

 My son told me Monday that he 'had nothing to do'.  Really?  We live on 10 acres, have a barn full of toys and a room full of toys, more books that I can count and you have nothing to do!!??

 So I started him sewing.  On the perfect project.  A new dog bed.  Doesn't have to be perfect and he can get a feel for how the machine works.

 We stuffed it with left over batting scraps. These are either too small to piece back together, or trimmings from quilts.  Makes great stuffing!

 The finished product.  Its' just a big rectangle of corduroy with stuffing bits in it.  I have about 10 yards of the powder blue corduroy.  Seriously.  I found it at a thrift store for a couple of dollars. 

 Everyone wanted to try out the new cushion.

 The boy now tells me he wants to make a quilt!

WIP Wednesday 7.10.13

The biggest WIP around here is still going on: Baby is still cooking.
On the project front: A few items going on.

 Are you tired of the owl yet?  He is all pieced, I must find him a background fabric today.  The above shot is the back with all the papers still in.

 I opened my big mouth at dinner on Monday and said "If I sew all week, we could probably go to Renaissance Faire this weekend." 

 So far: Two pairs of pants and one shirt are 90% done.  Wizard Robe is cut out.  The two pirate boys will be a mish mash of old and new parts.  And one fairy on the list.  Fortunately all Mr. Riley asked for was new pants. (and a cloak, but I think that's long term).  As for me, well, I've decided Saturday would be a delightful day for a baby - but I'm not counting on it.

WIP Wed 12.19.12

Egad! Wednesday already?  Yeah, I haven't been getting a whole lot done.  Thus the blog silence around here.  So this week's measly offerings:

 I finished one pillow.  Out of the 5 I have in the works.  And then, I didn't even pay attention, and managed to leave the selvage on for everyone to see.

 Ugg.

 The absolute disaster that is my sewing/wrapping station.

 Yep, wrapping dozens of presents: Family, teachers, school mates.  I was up one Christmas eve until 2 or so, I vowed never again.  I work really hard to have everything wrapped by the 23rd now.

 Oh, and I've started cutting out more hexie papers.  I don't know if anyone will appreciate the dorkiness, but there is great irony in reusing 'Battletech' sheets to make hexagons.  I figure there will be lots of chatting and stitching time over the Christmas Holiday.  And don't mind the ironing board cover.  Its only about 6 months old, but that's why I don't make or buy pretty ones.  They get so gross so fast!

WIP Wed 5/23/12

I am here!  Frantically sewing teacher gifts today.

 Why frantically?  Because today is the last day of school

 Can I get four cozies and 8 coasters done before 2:30?

 Probably not.  My back up plan is awards day on Friday!

 Why do I procrastinate?  Why do my children have four teachers when there are only two kids?

WIP Wed 4/18/12

This past weekend was a 'Sew In' hosted at the church in which our Quilt Guild meets.  Two days, 9-9, for 24 hours of quilting.  I was able to go Saturday for about 7 hours.  7 uninterrupted hours of me time on the sewing machine.  No kids.  No cooking.  No cleaning.  It was great.  I got a lot done!

 I put together this little top.  I am thinking it may become the center of a medallion quilt.  It is too small and too oddly shaped to do much with.  Unfortunately I think that means it ends up on the UFO pile, because I'm not really ready to do anything with it right now.  The blocks are 3" square.  I first posted about the blocks here.

 I also put together this top.  I did the borders at home.  Now on to the quilting.  Need to have it done by Saturday!  The blocks are 8" square.

I also got some sewing done on a fabric exchange quilt that some women in my guild are doing.  I'll save pictures for when there is something to look at.

And I am in the process of stitching down the binding on Si's quilt.  Judging by how long side 1 took, I think it will be a total of 6 hours to get it done.

And I'm sure most of you saw my finish for the week:  The Ruby Hexagon Quilt.

WIP Wednesday 4/4/12

I'm smack dab in the middle of a bunch of things this week.

 I already mentioned I'm in the middle of quilting Si's quilt.

 A bright, fun, over the top skirt for me.  Needs to be done before tomorrow evening - just needs to be hemmed.

 All the pieces are cut out for E's dress.  This is definitely next on the list.  Hopefully I won't be up till the wee hours the night before Easter, but it wouldn't be the first time.

Finishing up the binding on the bunny quilt.  This one may not actually get hung up for Easter, but at least it will be done for next year!

WIP Wed 3/21/12

 A couple of WIPS (that I can show you)  First, the back of my first bunny quilt.  It is quilted, just need to square up and put on the binding, hanging sleeve and make it 'show ready' and turn it in.  Then I'll show you the front!

 Finished up the quilting on this wall hanging and sewing on the hanging sleeve.  More tomorrow!
