McCalls 3387 - The Sweatshirt Dress

It's KCWC day four.  Well the results of day four.  
I've been thinking about making a beach cover up for E for a while.  I wasn't sure what to make it out of though.  When I was going through the Stash, I came across this sweatshirt fleece from a stack my Stepmom gave to me.  It is soft on the inside.  The fabric is obviously from the 90's or earlier, but E likes it!

 I altered the basic pattern some.  I lengthened it as much as my fabric yardage would allow.  I added a pocket on the front.  It's hard to see, I should have had her pose with her hands in it.

 I also sewed up the front seam, where you are supposed to insert a zipper.  I basted it first, and then decided if I could fit it over my head, it would definitely fit over hers.  I was right!

The pattern had previously been cut for a size 5 - so I graded larger, just kind of eyeballing it as I cut.  I can't for the life of me figure out what I would have made in a size 5 from this pattern.  I didn't have any problem with sewing the fleece knit.  The seams are serged/ overlocked and the hems all laid nice and flat.  I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

I'm thinking this may turn into two weeks of  kid sewing.  I still have more things I want to make for E.

KCWC - Day Three - Top & Skirt

Another outfit from Simplicity 4206

 As soon as E tried on the top, we noticed it would be too short, and that was after I had already added two inches when I cut it out!  The girl is long.  Thus the added blue band.

 I'm sure the skirt will be too short for school. i.e. over the knees.  I suppose I will pick out the hem and add another layer.  *sigh.

I finished it after bedtime last night, so no girl in the outfit pictures, yet.  Maybe later today?

The fabric is from Moda.  At least a couple years old.  I would guess a thirties era print.  I remember E picked it out a while ago at a quilt shop in Pella, IA.  I'm so glad I am getting to some of the things I promised so long ago.

I've now made everything in the envelope.  I will be coming back to the pants and shorts.  Soon.

KCWC - Day Two - Shorts & Capris

I love quick and easy projects.  These shorts and capris fit the bill!

 E was skeptical of the baggy capris - but now she Loooooooves them.  And is asking for more.  I'll be happy to oblige.

 The shorts are from the same pattern, but I cut them a bit slimmer.  E is a slender girl.  They are both Simplicity 4206.  I have a top and skirt each about half done.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on them today. 
I've decided to do some rearranging in E & S's room.  That might take all day.

He looks happy about it, doesn't he?
