Gingham - close to done

I finished up the quilting last night around midnight.  My lovely children actually let me sleep in this morning!  I had to get it done.  I didn't want to spend another day working on circles, and another night dreaming about them!  This is the back - I found a fun gingham for the back.  Bought all they had on the bolt which was just enough.  Seriously.  I have one little piece about 9"x9".
Lovely pink for the binding!  I should have it done for Guild meeting on Monday.

Gingham 4

 Possible layouts of the geese.

Purposely taken w/o flash - since the colors don't matter.
You're welcome to comment on what you like.
 But I've already decided.
Ready to be assembled!
Oh, and the quilt has already been named.  "The Mario Kart Quilt".  I'll explain later.

Thursday Progress - Gingham 3

The Tea Dyed Linen has been deemed acceptable.

And I am freeing the flying geese from their blocks.  Have you ever tried this method?  You start with a 7.5" square on top of a 9" square.  Sew both sides of the diagonal line.  Cut, iron, turn, redraw diagonal, sew on both sides, cut, press, trim out geese?  Does that make sense?  Would you like to see how I did it?  Let me know if you're interested and I'll put together a quick tutorial.

Gingham 2

Woo Hoo!  I got my bundle in  the mail yesterday - and while it showed up in my mail box, I was out getting extra Kona white.
I got the fat quarters ironed last night.  Today, on to the flying geese.

This is a sketch of what I am thinking - although I think I'll add even more white/negative space.

Gingham

I've been thinking about gingham a lot lately.  It all started with Elizabeth at Occasional Piece-Quilt.  She found some ginghams at a garage sale and has been talking about them since.  Even arranging a gingham sewing party, along with two other blogs : Krista, of KristaStitched, and Cindy, of Live A Colorful Life, You can join in, find the details here.

I had the privilege of winning a small stack of ginghams with the deal of making a quilt and posting July 4.   I'll have to get mine done early, since we'll be leaving town the end of June!  I haven't gotten them yet, but I've got my quilt drafted, so I'm ready to start as soon as they're here.

I started looking around the house for any ginghams that might be around and the first thing I noticed was I used a couple in my bunny quilt.
E's Easter dress from last year was a green and white gingham in silk!
Mr. Riley has a couple items of clothing that are gingham.  A dress shirt and a pair of 'shorts'.
Totally need to do some ironing!

And I even inadvertently bought a black and purple gingham shirt the other day.

I have to admit I've never really given gingham too much thought before, always thought of it more as a check.  But it is surely out there, almost everywhere you look.

How about you?  Do you like gingham?  Does it speak of summer to you?  Or, like me, did you not really notice it so much before?
