Stripes Quilt Finish

 Yay!  Another UFO finish.  I've had these blocks laying around since WP's quilt was made.  So about four years.  You can see the post where I put this top together here.  It gives an idea of my process (somewhat scrambled at times)

 Lots of crooked organic straight line quilting.  Most with the walking foot, some without.

I still had some of the strip and orange laying around so I managed to piece the binding out of the leftovers.  The back is a stripe of which I have completely forgotten the line.  Oh, well.

Finished size: 38" x 38"
Quilted in blue coats & clark cotton thread
Batting is warm 'n natural
Will probably be a charity quilt, unless I change my mind between now and the guild meeting.

Striped Blocks Quilt Top

 Or, How Not to Build a Quilt



 Many times I don't have a plan when I start a quilt.  Case in point, these leftover blocks.

I put these on my guild UFO list, so really wanted to get them into a top.  I liked the on point layout, so I found some navy fabric and started building up my quilt.

 Not all the stripes are going the same way - time for the seam ripper.

 I think this is when I realized it was going to take lots of partial seams to get it to work.

 I also realized I didn't have enough blue to leave the blocks on point - so a square quilt it it.

 Assembling....

 It turned out to be a good thing I was taking pictures.  I had to keep referencing them to put the layout together, it was much like a puzzle.

 I did most of this on Friday afternoon.

 Finished up on Saturday afternoon.
Ready for basting.
