Colored Shadows. A mini quilt made for my Four-in-Art Group.
This Quarters theme was light: Stained Glass Shadows
I started out with a tiling of neutrals. This was pieced, washed in hot and dried to strip any sizing or chemicals from the fabric.
For attempt number one I tried to put tissue paper that I wetted down and then ironed, covered with a sheet of parchment paper. I think the paper picked up more color than the fabric!
So then I re-wet the whole thing and pulled out some water color paints.
I confess that I wish it had stayed more like this, more vibrant, but with time....and water,
This mini finished up at 11.5" x 12.5"
Please visit my fellow Four-in-Art collaborators. I'm sure their quilts will be more inspiring than mine.
We have just one more reveal to go. November 1.

You found a way to blur the edges! I do like the more vibrant colors in the one photo. I would never have thought of tissue paper. Your piece is so creative. I'm inspired to try something like this.
I love this! So fun that you tried tissue paper first, as that makes perfect sense (but one that I would never have thought of). And then the watercolors, which seemed to do the trick. I think your quilt is a perfect rendition of stained glass shadows, with their blotchy muted brilliant colors melting into the tiles. Brilliant execution of our theme!
Beautiful recreation of stained glass GLOWING on the floor tiles! Nicely done!
I think it's lovely and you managed absolutely to capture that powdery, blurry quality of the light. I always admire your adventurousness!
This looks wonderfully like the shadows stained glass casts on the floor. Your combination of tissue paper and paint was a very interesting and clever way to achieve this lovely effect :)
You are so great at coming up with unconventional ways to do things - and once again, here you go! This piece is just perfect and conveys what I see in stained glass shadows - just love it!
I LOVE how you tried a new technique! It is so good to explore and find new approaches to a design idea. Normally you don't EVER want to allow tissue to bleed onto a quilt, but for you this was a grand slam idea. Can't wait to see what you do next time around too!
