Newtown Quilt

A few weeks ago Quilting Ranny put out a call for quilts for the Newtown, CT Communications Officers.  I immediately said yes.  I know there are many out there who contributed pillowcases and snowflakes.  I wanted to do something as well - and this is it.

Its a larger version of my Windows pattern.  47" x 67"
We were asked to make something 'larger than lap size'.  So this turned out perfectly.
I've been holding on to the backing fabric forever, and this turned out to be the perfect project for it.  I quilted from the back.  Outlining the paisley flowers, and doing a loop-de-loop pattern in between.
I quilted it with a Mettler Charcoal color.  Mettler isn't my favorite, but they had the color I needed.
Couple more shots, courtesy of my kids.
 On its way to CT.
*Edited to Add* Quilting Ranny is still looking for 8 more quilts for the communications officers.  Can you help?  Click over to her blog for the information and her email address.

This is an interesting design. I'm thinking that it might work - or something similar - for an "I-spy" style memory quilt for my parents. I tend to like the idea of have "pictures" framed in quilt blocks, and this pattern would lend itself nicely to that. :-)

great quilt! I love how you let the pattern of the backing fabric guide your quilting

That quilt is beautiful. I love the idea of following the pattern on the back to create a gorgeous quilting design. It's brilliant!
