Temperature Quilt 2014 - Reveal

Do you remember?  Way back in December 2013 I formulated my plan to make a Temperature Quilt.  You can read about it in the original post *here*.   I pulled my fabrics and they lived in this basket all year.
Today is the day!  A final reveal!
I thought it rather appropriate to be out in the 10 degree weather to take these pictures. Brrrr.
Because just one picture isn't good enough.
It was really great to see the whole year come together.  The vertical strips are for days where there were record lows. 10 for the year.  The horizontal strips were for record highs.  2 for the year.  I know it looks fairly warm in the middle, but we didn't have a particularly hot summer.  Only 90 or above a couple of times.  Lots of yellows and pinks - in the 70s.
A full shot of the back.  The bug fabric is a batik from IKEA.  Do you see how well the hanging sleeve blends in with the backing....?
The bottom right shows the fabrics that I used and each temperature range they represent.  There are also two strips for the two vacations we took.  One south to Florida, and one 'up north' to Upper Michigan.
The quilting is all chevron stripes with Aurifil (of course).  In the colored areas I used a Silver #2600 and the borders is good old black.  There were lots and lots of threads to bury for every time I had to change colors.

More shots of the quilting.  It wasn't what I had originally planned, and ended up taking way more time, both to mark and to quilt, but I'm so happy that I did it this way.

The fabrics on the front are all Fossil Fern by Bernatex, and just flow so lovely together.
The Details:
Finished size: 69" x 70"
Batting: Pellon Cotton
Thread: Aurifil #2600 & #2692 (black)
Backing: IKEA batik
Pieced and Quilted by Me!

Linking with Crazy Mom Quilts!
BTW the next post has a finish, too!

Looks great. Just saw it in a post on FB by Aurifil thread. You need to share this on the lighthouse quilters fb page.

I watched a group last year make temperature scarves; I think I like the idea of a quilt much more than a scarf. This turned out fantastic!

Hi I saw this quilt on Pinterest. This is a really clever idea, and two pretty quilts as a result.
