WIP Wednesday 11.26.14 - Pre-Thanksgiving

Today my primary work in progress will be pie!  And cleaning house, too, in preparation for tomorrow's festivities.
After not touching this for a couple of months, I sat down the other night and diligently sewed down the last row.
Now, time to remove the papers.  I also need to figure out how one finishes a hexie quilt!?  It seems like such a waste to cut off all those points to make a straight edge, but I'm sure how to deal with all those points, either.  Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

I've also been working diligently on my IG miniswap quilt.  I finished the quilting last night.
Time to bury threads and determine a binding.  I was hoping to not buy any fabric, but it may be inevitable, since I started with fat quarters of each color.  Not a lot left of any but the green.
I thought the shot below helped show the quilting textures.
May you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Both are beautiful!

I don't know how to finish a hexie quilt / hope you find the solution :)

Your hexie quilt is beautiful. When I made mine I trimmed it even with the edge of the full hexagons. So the half hexagons that are sticking out on yours now would be trimmed off. I arranged mine so that the last row could be sacrificed that way without losing the design.

Your swap quilt is gorgeous too. Lucky partner!

Soory, I don't have tips for finishing the hexie...
But I'm running a fabric giveaway, would you like to enter to finish your great miniswap?
Happy Thanksgiving!

Love your mini swap quilt. The quilting is great. Wish I could help you with the hexie dilemma. Hope that your day has been wonderful.

I have made a hexagon wall quilt. I appliqued the top to the bottom. You could do this by machine also. You save your points.

My favorite method of binding them is from Amy at Badskirt (do you know her blog? a real treat): http://badskirt.blogspot.com/2010/05/tutorial-finishing-you-hexie-quilts.html

You might also try a faced binding with a twist: Make a "frame" the size of your quilt and about 4-5" wide. After you quilt it, lay your hexie quilt on that, RST, pin and stitch around the edge of the hexies. Clip and turn and press around the edges like crazy, then slipstitch the "binding" down onto the back. Just an idea. I don't think I'd want to trim anything off either!

Oh, and PS: I LOVE your diamond quilt! And a narrow binding of green might just be a nice pop of color!
