I received the Collette Sewing Handbook for Christmas, and while I am not a novice sewist, I really appreciate how much great information is put together in the book. I would highly recommend it! The Meringue Skirt is the first project in the book. I think the only project that isn't a dress.
I used a baby wale corduroy with a sort of burn out pattern on it. It came from the stash. I'm not sure from where originally. It is over all very light weight, so I fully lined the skirt. I found some Stretch Taffeta on the clearance aisle in the local Joann store. It has a nice stiffness to it, but with the stretch going across, worked wonderfully for a lining to help hold up the corduroy.
As for sizing and fitting - I should have cut at least one size smaller. I took the skirt in as much as I could without distorting it, or having to redo the zipper. And it is really still too big. It sits quite a bit lower than my true waist. I also have some points!?! along the waist line - need to make that a bit smoother, although I actually rarely wear my tops tucked in. In fact, this is how I wore it to church. (that face I'm making looks like my grandma! - the new specs add to it)
When I asked Mr. Riley what he thought - he said it looked like our (old) curtains.
We still have the pillows.....
Looks nice! ...though we never want to be compared to curtains...
